Oral Surgery

At Acharya Dental we do our very best to save your tooth and avoid removing them. However, sometimes, an extraction is unavoidable – especially when the tooth is damaged beyond repair or in other cases such as to create space to align teeth or to remove problematic wisdom teeth. Regardless of the reason, we have a talented team of oral surgeons to assess your condition and finish your procedure painlessly.

The oral surgeons day doesn’t end with just extractions though. They also take care of patients who have any type of pathology such as a cyst or an abscess, and are specialized in jaw surgery to provide a more esthetic and functional facial appearance.

Steps to a perfect surgical procedure

Step 1

Make an appointment with our team who will assess your needs with X-rays and a clinical examination.

Step 2

Your oral surgeon will explain all the steps involved and all your questions will be answered. A prescription and pre-operative instructions will be given to you.

Step 3

Your procedure will be completed seamlessly and painlessly. You will be given clear post operative instructions with an emergency contact number in case of any issues after work hours.

Recovery time can vary depending on the type of surgery, but it typically takes about a week or two to feel back to normal.

Soft, bland food is recommended on the day of surgery. Avoid very hot or crunchy foods. Some examples of foods you can eat are yoghurt, smoothies, ice cream, scrambled eggs, etc.

Oral hygiene is very important to aid in recovery after surgery. While you should brush all your teeth as you usually would, avoid brushing the surgical site for 24 hours, and avoid forceful spitting after brushing. Gently swish water in your mouth after brushing.

It is best to avoid smoking or any tobacco products for at least 2 weeks after the procedure. Smoking can delay healing and increase the risk of complications.

Your dentist or oral surgeon will prescribe pain medication, or you can take over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol. In the first few hours after surgery, a cold compress will be useful to control pain and swelling.

This is largely dependent on the type of surgery performed, but most people are able to return to work the day after the surgical procedure.

If you have had sedation performed, you cannot drive after oral surgery and need someone to take you home. Most surgeries are performed under simple local anaesthesia, and you will be fine to drive home after the surgery is complete.

Your dentist or oral surgeon will provide specific instructions, but typically you should rinse your mouth with warm salt water or a prescribed mouthwash several times a day to help keep the surgical site clean.

Most oral surgical procedures will allow you to return to normal physical activity 24 hours after surgery. Avoid very strenuous activity for a week after surgery.

Contact the Acharya Dental emergency help line if you experience severe pain, fever, vomiting or diarrhoea. Some swelling is expected after an oral surgical procedure and usually takes a few days to resolve.

I was diagnosed with chronic periodontis and was recommended by a team of doctors at Acharya Dental to undergo tooth extraction, bone grafting, implant, and crown fixture. All in that order. At every stage of my recommended dental plan, I was thoroughly satisfied and impressed with Dr Varun Acharya's professionalism, kindness, patience, empathy, and attention to detail. Any time I had an issue cropping up that needed some advice, Dr Varun always made himself available on WhatsApp.Now, I feel bolstered with two big molars at the back of my lower jaw. Dr Varun's meticulous craftsmanship with regards to crown measurements was just gratifying and commendable. I am so happy that I regained my biting power and am able to comfortably chew and grind food with the new implants and crowns. They (the new implants and crowns) have just blended in well with my mouth contours and profile and I don't have an iota of a feeling that there is a new kid in the bloc. The line between the old and the new has nicely blurred. My Sincere thanks to Dr Varun Acharya and his team at Acharya Dental for their wonderful support. I realised the value for my money too.More important, the good thing about Acharya Dental is their emphasis on preventive dentistry which is rare in India. I have no hesitation in recommending Acharya Dental for your dental needs..
